Women’s Tennis is Whistling Dixie 3/24/2006 Commodores down Ole Miss, Continue SEC Streak OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 12 Commodores improved their SEC winning streak to 5-0 when they defeated No. 52 Ole Miss 4-3 in Oxford. The Commodores notched the doubles point with two wins, giving them the winning edge against the Rebels. VU ‘s freshman tandem of Courtney Ulery and Liberty Sveke was the first to get on the board, defeating Renaudin/Subramanian 8-4. Bertrand/Ferrell clinched the point at No. 2 when they downed Koukhartchouk- Tokarieva 8-5. In singles, the Commodores took first set wins across the board. Vanderbilt’s three losses came in tie-breaker sets at the No. 3, No.4 and No. 6 slots. Commodore No. 1 Amanda Fish earned a solid win against Virginia Tomatis (6-2, 6-2). No. 20 Fish improved her overall record to 13-3. Freshman Courtney Ulery bounced back from her singles loss last Friday against Texas, to hold UM’s Mimi Renaudin game-less (6-0, 6-0). Taka Bertrand was the final Commodore to notch a win, defeating Ilona Somers 7- 6, 6-3. The Commodores will continue their SEC road stretch when they face Mississippi State in Starkville on Sunday.
