3/12/2006 BATON ROUGE, La. – The Commodores (12-2) improved their SEC record to a perfect 4-0 on Sunday when they defeated LSU (7-5, 0-4) in Baton Rouge. The Tigers were only able to pull off one win in the contest at No. 2 doubles, when Marina Chiarelli/Anastasiya Dubova defeated Amanda Fish/Taka Bertrand 8-4. The loss followed a powerful win by VU’s No.1 tandem Maggie VU’s freshmen pair of Liberty Sveke and Courtney Ulery clinched the doubles point when they defeated Camila Caliari/Daysi Espinal 8-6. The ‘Dores only played one tie-breaker set, at No. 2 singles, where Bertrand eventually defeated Marina Chiarelli (3-6,6-3, 10-6). Amanda Fish pulled out a strong win at No. 1 by holding LSU’s Mykala Hedberg to just 4 games in two sets, winning 6-1, 6-3. Freshman Liberty Sveke notched another win after making her SEC singles debut on Friday against Arkansas. Sveke defeated Daysi Espinal 6-1, 6-1 to put the Commodores up 3-0. After winning two of three road matches last week, the ‘Dores will return to Nashville to host Texas on Friday.
