Men’s Basketball Hosts UT in Regular Season Finale

3/3/2006

Vanderbilt greets in-state rival and 11th-ranked Tennessee in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be televised by Jefferson Pilot Sports.

Two Nashville natives, Mario Moore and Julian Terrell, will be playing their final home game at Memorial Gymnasium. Vanderbilt’s Senior Day ceremonies are scheduled to start at 12:45 p.m.

The Commodores (16-10, 7-8 Southeastern Conference) continue to push for postseason consideration having won four of their last six games. Vanderbilt won its third consecutive road game Wednesday topping Ole Miss 77-62. The Commodores shot a season-high 62.8 percent from the field and made 9-of-16 attempts from beyond the arc against the league’s top 3-point defensive unit in the Rebels. DeMarre Carroll posted a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Shan Foster scored 18 points, while Derrick Byars added 16.

Tennessee (20-6, 11-4 SEC) suffered an 80-78 home setback to Kentucky on Wednesday. The Volunteers already have secured the SEC Eastern Division crown.

Tennessee snapped Vanderbilt’s three-game win streak in the series with a 69-62 victory in Knoxville on Feb. 1. Tennessee leads the all-time series 103-65. Vanderbilt owns a 44-30 advantage in Nashville.
