Commodores selected to finish fourth in the league

Senior Kate Hickman and sophomore Margie Curran were named to the 2006 All-American Lacrosse Conference Preseason Team Wednesday, as selected by league coaches. The coaches also selected the Commodores to finish fourth in the six-team conference, choosing defending national champion Northwestern to repeat as conference champions.

The Wildcats edged out Penn State and Johns Hopkins, both of which earned at-large bids to the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse championships last year.

The coaches also named Northwestern’s Kristen Kjellman as the Preseason Player of the Year. Kjellman, a Tewaaraton Trophy finalist in 2005 after leading the Wildcats to the NCAA title, was a consensus first-team All-American last year and was the ALC Player of the Year in 2005.

Hickman was named to the 2005 ALC First Team after leading the Commodores in scoring a year ago. Curran earned second-team honors during an impressive freshman season.

The American Lacrosse Conference is a lacrosse-only conference and will send its regular season champion to the 2006 NCAA Tournament by virtue of an automatic qualifying berth.
