Taka Bertrand is SEC’s Player of the Week for her performance at the Baylor match on Sunday. Taka Bertrand clinched the upset over #10 Baylor for the Commodores, thanks to her straight set victory against #9 Zuzana Cerna (7-6, 6-2). Cerna is the fourth ranked opponent Bertrand has defeated in 2006, others include Brigham Young’s #95 Lauren Jones, the University of Michigan’s #48 Nina Yaftali, and Texas Christian’s #30 Anna Sydorska, With the Baylor upset, Bertrand improved her undefeated 2006 singles record to 7-0 and her career record to 27-6. Bertrand tied for the SEC Player of the Week Award three weeks ago for her performance at the ITA Team Indoor Tournament, where she went undefeated and notched a victory over Top 30 foe Anna Sydorska (6-4, 6-4). |
