Commodores Take on No. 5 Virginia in Home-Opener 2/16/2006 After an impressive 14-5 win over Mt. St. Mary’s on the road, the Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team will return home to take on the No. 5 Virginia Cavaliers on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. CT at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Complex.
Head Coach Cathy Swezey and her team are looking to avenge their 12-11 loss to the Wahoos last season in Charlottesville, Va. In that game, Kate Hickman scored an impressive five goals while Jennifer Tapscott posted a hat-trick, but it simply was not enough to overtake the Cavaliers.
Despite being ranked No. 5 in the nation, the Cavaliers will be playing without two of their three leading scorers from last year, Amy Appelt and Cary Chasney, who combined for 104 goals in their senior seasons. Despite the losses, the Cavaliers are going to be a test for the No. 15 Commodores, who have been unable to defeat Virginia in seven tries.
Sunday’s game against Vanderbilt will be the season opener for the 2005 NCAA tournament finalists.
Admission is free to all 2006 Vanderbilt lacrosse home games. |
