2/15/2006 Vanderbilt’s bowling team, fresh from a two week break in its competitive schedule, travels to Baltimore Friday to compete in the Morgan State Invitational Tournament. The Commodores carry a 31-22 record and No. 7 national ranking into the event, which will feature 18 teams. “We are going to see a number of east coast teams that we haven’t necessarily competed against to date,” says Coach John Williamson. “With Nebraska, Farleigh Dickinson, Central Missouri and New Jersey City College among the contenders it will be another excellent opportunity to measure ourselves against the best.” The Commodores will take their freshman quintet of Kaitlin Reynolds, Mandy Keily, Michelle Peloquin, Tara Kane and Karen Grygiel along with junior Christine Luce. Their actual five-person lineup remains in question as Grygiel is still recovering from a nasty finger cut on her throwing hand. If it is deemed she could not bowl without reopening the wound, it is probable she will be held out of all action. “We might not make a decision on Karen’s availability until Saturday morning,” Williamson said. “If she can’t go we have a lot of confidence in Christine. She is more than capable of stringing together very good games. She is competitive and has always represented us very well.” Action begins Saturday with five team games and concludes Sunday with five Baker games. |
