The 15th-ranked Vanderbilt women’s lacrosse team will open its 2006 season against defending Northeast Conference champion Mount St. Mary’s. Due to inclement weather in the Northeast, the match will be played at Gettysburg College at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Gettysburg College has an AstroTurf field that can be plowed.

Cathy Swezey, entering her ninth season as head coach at Vanderbilt, will be returning eight starters from last year’s squad. Among the returning starters are four All-Conference selections, including sophomores Sasha Cielak and Margie Curran, junior Molly Frew and senior attack Kate Hickman, who led the Commodores with 41 goals and 47 total points last season.

This is the first time that these two schools have met since the opening game of the 1996 season. Both Vanderbilt and Mount St. Mary’s began their lacrosse programs against each other in that match, which the Commodores won 21-3.
