Head Coach Kevin Stallings Quotes

Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings

On the game as a whole:

“It was a great game and I am very proud of my team.  Guys with lesser character and inner strength would have not shown up or would have panicked.  We did none of that.  We made mistakes with the press, but other than that 1:30 seconds we played a good basketball game.”

On what Coach Stallings was thinking after the intentional foul:

“We have to get a stop.  (Rajon) Rondo made a great play to strip the ball from Alex (Gordon) and Alex reacted.  Unfortunately, it was an intentional foul.  It was the right call.  I told Alex after the game that that was the play that won the game.

On Kentucky’s comeback with 1:30 to go:

“I am disappointed that we didn’t salt it away with a nine or 10 point lead. But we made it happen.  We had a very good defensive stand after the intentional foul and on the 3-point attempt (at the end of the game).  We didn’t want anyone to be open. We were not to go inside the three point line.  It looked quirky with all the offensive players inside the line and all the defensive players outside.  I thought they still got a good look on the double-pump to end the game, but Alex (Gordon) made a nice recovery.”

On the significance of the victory:

“We have lost three games on the last possession in league play.  I’m really happy for our players.  They deserve this.  They are a together group and a fighting group.”

On the Commodores’ hot shooting:

“We try to recruit good shooters.  DeMarre Carroll shooting 9-for-12 is fantastic.  He got half of our rebounds.  We were real aggressive and I am real proud.  Our guys have given us great effort and we are playing good basketball.”
