2/11/2006 The weather may have been storming outside the Currey Tennis Center, but inside UT-Chattanooga’s Mocs seemed to dry up against the Commodores and fell 7-0 in Friday’s contest. The Commodores (3-1) started the match off with the doubles win (3-0). Vanderbilt’s Ryan Preston and Jordan Magarik were the first to finish (8-3) in the No. 1 seed, but with two close pro sets in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, the doubles point was far from decided. Evan Dufaux and Andy Mack eventually pulled away from the Mocs and put the Commodores up 1-0 with an 8-6 victory. “The doubles were really touch and go. We got ourselves in a bind but we were able to get out. We did a decent job overall, but we’re going to need to get a whole lot better,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Ian Duvenhage said. Vanderbilt’s Nathan Sachs was the first to finish in singles play, taking the No. 4 victory 6-3, 6-1. After a defeat on the road against Louisville, Sachs sad he was excited to be back in front of a home crowd. “It’s nice to be in front of all our fans,” Sachs said. “The support really pumps me up.” Sophomore Evan Dufaux played the closest match of night, winning in a ten point tie breaker in the third set 1-0(7). After dropping the first set 4-6, a controversial call by UTC’s Artyom Vlasenko in the second set gave Dufaux a surge of aggression that helped him pull ahead and take the victory (6-4). Andy Mack pulled a solid a victory in the No. 2 seed, defeating Artyom Vlasevko 6-2, 6-1. Mack is currently 3-1 at No. 2 and No.3 singles in 2006. “Andy Mack is just so consistent. You know what you can expect from him on a daily basis, he’s really great,” Duvenhage said. The next match for the Commodores will be this Sunday, when they will host Memphis at the Currey Tennis Center. The contest will be the sixth match of an eight match road series for the Tigers (2-3).
