2/3/2006 MADISON, Wisc. –The No. 7 Commodores fell 4-3 to the No. 16 TCU Horned Frogs Wednesday at the ITA Indoor Nationals in Madison. The young Commodore squad struggled against TCU’s depth and experience but the match stayed close throughout singles and doubles. The Frogs took the doubles point with two wins in No.1 (8-5) and No.2 (8-1) seeds, but dropped the third doubles match to freshmen Courtney Ulery and Liberty Sveke (8-2). Ulery continued her winning in singles and took the match victory against Karine Ionesco (7-5, 6-3). No.1 seed Amanda Fish and No. 2 seed Taka Bertrand both defeated players ranked in the ITA’s top 30. “It really was a heartbreaker for us. I think we had our chances but they came up with a couple of big plays when they needed to,” Vanderbilt assistant coach Meike Babel said. “But overall I thought we did a great job with some really tough competition.” The Commodores will play BYU in the consolation round on Friday, February 3 at ITA RESULTS TCU 4, VU 3 Doubles Player 1.
