Commodore Notebook: January 30 1/30/2006 Commodore Notebook Saturday’s Game Happenings Here’s a listing of some of the activities happening before and during Saturday’s basketball game with Georgia. Keep in mind the game begins at 4:00 p.m. as it is being televised by FoxSports. Former track & field star Josie Hahn will be recognized during the game for being named the 2005 SEC Women’s Track & Field Student-Athlete of the Year. The National Commodore Club will be thanking its members during the game. We will be handing out 3,000 3-point cards. At halftime we will introduce Gene Southwood and Herb Barrett, both of whom recently endowed scholarships. Vanderbilt Athletics will salute the Dance Marathon fundraiser for the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Alumni spotlight is on Austin Bates. Halftime taco eating contest sponsored by Taco Bell. Jam the Gym was Another Hit Once again women’s basketball’s annual “Jam the Gym” day was a big success. Over 7,800 fans pushed into Memorial Gym Sunday to cheer the Commodores past Ole Miss, 68-58. As usual, the halftime Mascot Game was popular with many of Nashville’s best known mascots playing some form of basketball. Baseball Team at Saturday’s Game On the verge of its own season, our baseball team will be greeting fans and handing our schedule cards at Memorial Gymnasium entry doors Saturday afternoon prior to the Georgia basketball game. Speaking of baseball, it is not too late to get your tickets for the teams annual “Meet the Commodores” dinner, Friday, Feb. 10 at the Vanderbilt Marriott Stadium Club. Call Mike Calitri at 322-3716 for information and tickets. And, Saturday, Feb. 11 is the first baseball alumni game. This is expected to be a “real” game as the alumni will be recent graduates, many active in professional baseball. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
