Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan 1/28/2006 On the game:
“It was a good win for us. Vanderbilt is a very good basketball team. In my opinion, they’ve got two of the better wing forwards in the game — Shan Foster and (Derrick) Byars. We were fortunate that they missed shots in the second half. We got some great minutes from different people tonight. (Adrian) Moss and Walter Hodge really stepped up. (Corey) Brewer’s ankle is day-to-day, and it didn’t feel very good today. Vanderbilt is a very difficult team to play against. The biggest thing, is that our basketball team is still learning. We played inspired and very hard, but I don’t know if we understand how physical we have to be and how we have to play. Vanderbilt did some things to us at first where we had to settle in and we picked it up, certainly in the second half, but the first 10 minutes were tough. ”
On the team:
“Our guys are still learning. We’re not consistent in a lot of areas, and it’s a sign of youth and immaturity on the floor. We had eight turnovers in the first half, and we got going too fast. I’m encouraged about our team, but I feel like we are still a work in progress. If we hadn’t played well, they could have beaten us handily. Today, I had to start Walter Hodge because (Corey) Brewer told me he was 75 percent. (Walter) is a freshman. So, we are playing a lot of different people, and I’m proud. They listen, they pay attention, they try to get better and they are great kids.”
On Al Horford’s fifth double-double of the season:
“It’s good to see him do well because he was non-existent at South Carolina. He’s having a phenomenal year. I’m hoping he can continue to evolve and move forward. We missed his rebounding last game, but he did a terrific job on both ends of the floor today. It’s good to see him learning.”
