1/28/2006 NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Commodores swept the Skyhawks 7-0 in the dual match season opener Saturday, January 28. Sophomore Ryan Preston debuted at No. 1 singles against Oltion Mollaymeri and defeated the Skyhawk senior 6-0, 6-0. “It was a solid enough match,” Preston said. “The whole team played really efficiently.” Sophomore Evan Dufaux played at No.2 and held UTM’s Stephan Bruwer to one game per set, winning 6-1, 6-1. UTM’s Andrey Yesipov and Commodore Andy Mack had a back-and-forth first set in the No. 4 slot, but Mack clinched the set 6-4, followed by a second win (6-3). The Commodores quickly earned the doubles point with the speedy finishes of No 3. doubles pair Nick Cromydas and Nathan Sachs (8-1) followed by No.2 pair Dufaux and Mack (8-4). “I thought that it was a pretty efficient first performance,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Ian Duvenhage said. “We really improved as the match went on.” The Commodores will take on Tennessee Tech Sunday, January 29 at 1 p.m. following the women’s tennis match at 9:30 a.m. Log on to vucommodores.com/sports/mtennis/LiveTennisStats.asp to check out VU Live Stats at the Currey Tennis Center.
