Commodores Host First Ranked Match of 2006 1/27/2006 The No. 8 Commodores (2-0) will host No. 38 Michigan (1-0) Sunday, January In 2005, the Commodores battled fiercely against the Wolverines, with the dual match coming down to a tie-breaker in Ann Arbor, won by Vanderbilt’s Annie Menees in the third set. “We are definitely looking forward to a very competitive match,” Vanderbilt Head Coach Geoff Macdonald said. “It will be great competition before we go to the ITA’s Team Indoors.” Michigan defeated DePaul in the Wolverine season opener on January 21, 4-3. The Commodores enter the contest against Michigan 2-0, with victories over Montana State and Michigan State. Amanda Fish and Taka Bertrand will most likely lead the Commodores at the top positions. Fish started the season at the No. 1 position against Montana State, defeating Nuria Lozano 6-2, 6-1, while Bertrand started at No. 1 against Michigan State defeating Michigan State’s Christine Bader 6-0, 6-1. The Commodores will begin match play at 9:30 a.m. at the Currey Tennis Center and will be followed by the men’s tennis team at 1 p.m. when they will host Tennessee Tech. |
