VU Bowlers Split at Ozark 1/22/2006 JEFFERSON CITY, MO—Vanderbilt bowlers won two games and dropped two others Saturday during the opening day of the Ozark Invitational. The Commodores downed Elmhurst College and revenged yesterday’s loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater. It lost a one pin decision to host Central Missouri and also lost to Arkansas State. “Scores were down today across the board today because it was a pretty difficult shot,” said Coach John Williamson referring to the slick Sport Shot lane finish. “Overall we bowled fairly well but we had a few bad misses — or perhaps just bad timing with our open frames. We had just six opens against Central Missouri but we missed four very makeable spares and lost by a single pin. We missed six makeable (non-split) spares against Arkansas State. “We need to develop more mental toughness,” Williamson continued, “so when we get a tough break or lose a tight game that we bounce back strong in our next game. There isn’t time to feel sorry for yourself in-between games in college bowling.” The split moves the team’s season record to 21-18. The Ozark tournament concludes Sunday. |
