VU Returns to Action Saturday vs.Alabama A&M

Vanderbilt plays its first game following finals week Saturday when it entertains Alabama A&M at 7 p.m. The game will not be televised.

The Commodores (5-1) dropped a 92-83 decision to Cincinnati last Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium. Lost in the defeat was a career-high 25-point effort by Derrick Byars – his second consecutive 20-point game. Julian Terrell registered his sixth career double-double and first of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds. The Commodores committed 17 turnovers that led to 26 Bearcat points.

Alabama A&M (2-1) has not played since a 69-59 victory over Tuskegee on Dec. 3. Guard/Forward Joe Martin leads the Bulldog attack, averaging 14.3 points and 13.3 rebounds. Guard Obie Trotter leads Alabama A&M with 17 assists and 21 steals.

Vanderbilt owns a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series with Alabama A&M. The Bulldogs are members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Saturday’s contest is the first of three consecutive home games in the next six days for Vanderbilt. The Commodores also will play host to New Orleans on Tuesday at 8 p.m. and IUPUI on Thursday at 7 p.m.
