Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings Quotes 11/22/2005 Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings Opening Statement:
“Tonight was a hard, tough game from the perspective of keeping it clean. We got out to a big lead and I thought our defense was outstanding in the first half. Their big kid wore us out in the second and we wanted to keep that from happening. All in all it was fine. It was nice to see (Julian Terrell) play well, but we have a lot of things to get better at.”
On the UNCG zone defense: “They play zone 90 percent of the time and we are not much of a zone team. We just have not shot it like we are capable of shooting it. Some of the guys had some good shots tonight. Not great, but good. I thought we were too willing to take threes tonight. But, I was encouraged. We have the potential to be a good offensive team. If you don’t turn it over, you tend to shoot it well, you get in a rhythm. When you’re up 42-14 it’s hard to maintain focus.”
On the play of Derrick Byars: “I don’t know that that was Derrick’s best game tonight. We have a lengthy grading system for each game and Derrick got an A+ for his play against Furman on Sunday. Tonight may have been his best offensive game, but Furman was his best game so far. He is an excellent shooter. Every time he shoots it you think it’s going in. He is another good player to have out there.” Vanderbilt Players “Right before the game, we got together and everyone emphasized bringing intensity from the opening tip, not just in the second half. Our communication was good on the offensive and defensive ends, and we really played well together.” On Vanderbilt’s first-half intensity… Junior Derrick Byars On defensive intensity…
