Vanderbilt Men’s Soccer Falls to Creighton 4-0

Peoria, Ill. – No. 17 Creighton shutout Vanderbilt 4-0 in Missouri Valley Conference semifinal action Friday night at Shea Stadium.
The Blue Jays (11-4-3) were able to take advantage of a red card given to goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni at the 13:44 mark, that forced the Commodores (9-7-2) to play a man down for the rest of the game. The contest was scoreless prior to Schoeni?s ejection.
Creighton got on the board at the at the 34:36 mark on a goal by Andrew Peterson that got past freshman keeper Kevin Gordon.
MVC Freshman of the Year Byron Dacy scored his 17th goal of the year five minutes into the second half to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 advantage. Michael Kraus scored at the 52:57 point and Andrew Friel scored the squad?s final tally with less than three minutes left in the game.
The match was a very physical affair, with 49 fouls and nine cautions called by the referees. VU played the final 27 minutes down two men as senior midfielder Pat Ryan also received a red card.
It was the second win over Vanderbilt this week for the Blue Jays who will now face the winner of the Bradley/Drake contest in the finals.
