Stallings Signs Beal, Brown for 2006-07 Campaign 11/10/2005 Jermaine Beal and JeJuan Brown have signed national letters of intent to attend Vanderbilt and play basketball the university announced Thursday. Both players rank among the top 150 prospects in the nation according to Rivals.com. “We are thrilled about having Jermaine and JeJuan join our program,” Head Coach Kevin Stallings said. “We identified them both as SEC-type athletes who could affect our program immediately.” Beal, a 6-3, 186-pound point guard from DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas, averaged 25 points, eight assists and five rebounds as a junior. He helped lead the Eagles to a 37-4 mark and runner-up finish in the Texas 4A state championship game. Beal chose the Commodores over Oklahoma, Baylor and UNLV. “We like Jermaine’s savvy and his ability to distribute the basketball,” Stallings said. “He’s long and physical and brings a different element to the point guard position for us. He also owns a strong work ethic and loves to play the game.” Brown, a 6-7, 225-pound forward from Biloxi High School in Biloxi, Miss., was named the Gulf Coast Player of the Year by the Sun Herald as a junior after averaging 19 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and three steals. An All-District, All-South Mississippi and All-tournament team honoree at the state tournament, Brown picked Vanderbilt over Tulane and West Virginia. “JeJuan can play either forward position,” Stallings said. “He is a skilled player with a strong work ethic who can shoot the 3-pointer, post up and defend well.” Both players will join the Commodores as freshmen for the 2006-07 campaign. |
