Vanderbilt Tops Northern State in Exhibition, 87-70 11/5/2005
Five Commodores scored in double figures led by Shan Foster’s 17 points as Vanderbilt won its lone preseason exhibition of the season, 87-80, Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium. Foster led all scorers hitting 6-of-11 from the field, including five 3-pointers. DeMarre Carroll hit 6-of-10 shots to tally 14 points. Ted Skuchas and Alex Gordon posted 13 points each and Derrick Byars added 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Craig Nelson and Aaron Busack scored 11 points each to lead the Wolves who were coached by former Lipscomb mentor Don Meyer. The Commodores were without the services of both seniors — Julian Terrell and Mario Moore. Terrell sat out the game while nursing a right foot injury. Moore served the first of a three-game suspension announced by head coach Kevin Stallings prior to tip-off. Moore will return to the court for the UNC-Greensboro game on Nov. 22. Vanderbilt shot 58.9 percent from the field for the game, including a 18-of-30 (60 percent) effort in the first half. The Commodores outscored Northern State 38-16 in the paint. Vanderbilt opens the regular season at home against Jacksonville State on Friday, Nov. 18. Game time is set for 7 p.m. |
