Vanderbilt Defeats Eastern Illinois 1-0 For Third Straight Win 10/30/2005 Charleston, Ill. — Sophomore midfielder Joe Germanese’s goal in the 65th minute propelled Vanderbilt to a 1-0 win over Eastern Illinois in Missouri Valley Conference action Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. The Commodores (9-5-1 overall, 4-1-1 MVC) won their third straight game, all via shutouts, and moved into a first place tie in the conference with Bradley entering the final weekend of conference play. VU goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni recorded his seventh shutout of the year, turning away seven Panther shots in the contest. The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, before Germanese scored from the left flank off an assist by Josh Medcalf at the 65:53 mark. Eastern Illinois fell to 4-9-2 overall and 1-4-1 in MVC action. Vanderbilt will close out the regular season at Creighton next Saturday at 1 p.m. The Commodores could finish anywhere from first to fourth in the league depending on next weekend’s action.
