SEC Basketball Media Pick Commodore Men Third in East, Women Fourth Overall 10/27/2005 The Vanderbilt men’s basketball team was picked to finish third in the Southeastern Conference Eastern Division while the women’s squad was tabbed fourth overall by media attending the league’s annual media days, October 26-27 in Birmingham, Ala. The men’s squad received one first-place vote and garnered 144 points overall to finish behind Kentucky (207) and Florida (146) in the SEC’s Eastern Division standings. South Carolina was picked fourth (114), Tennessee fifth (78) and Georgia sixth (46). The women’s team collected 201 points to finish behind Tennessee (251), LSU (248) and Georgia (224). After the top four teams, media picked in order: Ole Miss (144), Auburn (129), Florida (114), Alabama (104), Kentucky (87), Arkansas (76), Mississippi State (76) and South Carolina (62). On the men’s side, Kentucky was picked to win the overall crown while Alabama earned the most attention for the SEC Western Division title. Vanderbilt also earned individual recognition as junior forward Carla Thomas was chosen First Team All-SEC while teammate junior guard Dee Davis received second team accolades for the women. Senior guard Mario Moore was selected Second Team All-SEC for the men. Player of the year honors went to Arkansas’ Ronnie Brewer and LSU’s Seimone Augustus.
