Foster, Moore Named Preseason All-SEC by Coaches

10/21/2005

Vanderbilt men’s basketball players Shan Foster and Mario Moore were named 2006 preseason All-Southeastern Conference by the league’s coaches on Friday.

With Foster receiving All-SEC First Team accolades and Moore gathering second team honors, Vanderbilt matched Kentucky, Florida and Tennessee for the most SEC Eastern Division players earning the distinction with two. Alabama and Arkansas led all schools with three selections each.

A year ago, Foster was named to the SEC All-Freshman team by the league’s coaches at the end of the season after averaging 9.2 points and 4.1 rebounds. The 6-6, 200-pound sophomore swingman from Kenner, La., ranked among the SEC’s top freshmen in 3-point shooting (.445-second), free throw percentage (.814-third) and scoring (9.2 ppg-seventh). In doing so, Foster tallied more points (312), field goals (104) and 3-pointers (69) than any other previous freshman during the Kevin Stallings era.

Moore, who averaged 13.5 points and 3.7 assists per game last season, enters his final collegiate campaign ranked as the SEC’s only returning point guard with more than 1,000 points, 275 assists and 175 3-pointers. Among returning SEC players, the 5-11, 181-pound Nashville native ranks third in 3-pointers per game (2.26), fifth in scoring (13.5 ppg) and fifth in assists (3.71 apg). His 178 career 3-pointers and 476 career 3-point attempts rank seventh and eighth, respectively, in school history.

The preseason All-SEC first and second teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad. No ties were broken and no predicted order of finish was made.
