Head Coach Bobby Johnson
(Opening Statement) “It’s obvious that we had a little tough sledding on offense this weekend, and now we have to jump from the frying pan into the fire with another talented team in Georgia. That’s just what it means to be in the SEC. We’ll get back to practice and see if we can improve and get ready for the Bulldogs.”
(On LSU’s heavy blitzing) “People have changed their gameplans against us. That’s something that we’ll have to get used to and we’re going to have to think a little bit more about that. We just didn’t do a very good job of blocking. We also weren’t getting open. If you’re not open then there’s no one to throw it to and you can’t give protection forever. It all goes hand-in-hand.”
(On Georgia quarterback D.J. Schockley) “Obviously he brings a lot because he is so mobile, but he has also been throwing the ball great. He executes the position of quarterback very well. They have the top running game, the top passing game and the top total offense in the league. He could have played the last three years and he did some. But I think he’s happy he decided to stay and he’s having fun now. He’s enjoying all the fruits of it.”
(On facing the No. 5 team) “Our guys know what the story is. They aren’t all down in the dumps just because we lost to LSU. LSU is a great football team and we had our chances. It was 9-3 in the third quarter. If we play a complete game we have a chance to win.”
(On the defense’s performance against LSU) “I’m pleased. We gave up some yards in the first half, but we were very aggressive and we created some turnovers. We made them kick some field goals, which fortunately they missed so they couldn’t build up a lead on us. But when you keep people out of the end zone it does help build your confidence.”
(On Jay Cutler’s leadership) “He motivates because he wants to be successful. He’ll run the football for us if we ask him to, and he’ll try to run over people. When your best player does that and does all the little things that we ask him to, then naturally they become leaders. But he’ll talk to people and he’ll get on people as well, but I think he does it in a positive way.”
(On how to come back from the tough fourth quarter) “We tried to point out that it was 9-3 in the third quarter and 12-6 in the fourth quarter, and we were playing a very good team. We had a chance to win, or at least take the lead when it was 9-3 and we threw the ball down the field and had a guy wide open, we just overthrew it. LSU deserves the credit, though. They did a great job of playing underneath and then making plays on the long passes when we tried to burn them for playing underneath us.”
