Vanderbilt Blanks Denver 3-0 9/30/2005 Nashville, Tenn. – Sophomore Joe Germanese scored two goals to lead Vanderbilt to a 3-0 win over Denver Friday night at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. The Commodores won their second straight game to improve to 5-3 on the year while the Pioneers fell to 3-3. Head coach Tim McClements was pleased with his team?s complete effort on the night. “The score of the game was not really indicative of how strong a team Denver is,” noted McClements. “They were one of the most difficult teams we faced all year. I am most proud of the team for playing hard for the full 90 The game was scoreless at halftime before Germanese opened the gates at the 63:33 mark off an assist by Josh Medcalf. VU scored three minutes later when John Krause used a corner kick assist by Patrick Ryan to knock in his team best ninth goal of the year. Germanese capped the scoring at the 74:47 mark by taking another feed by Medcalf to record his fourth goal in the last two games. “It?s nice to see Joe back on track,” said McClements. “He is a leader on this team and its good to see his hardwork pay off.” Goalkeeper Kenny Schoeni had two saves and recorded his second shutout of the season in the win. He now has four in his career, placing him in a tie with Ryan Garland (1992-95) for fourth place on the school?s all-time list.
