Perkins, Team Recognized Nationally 9/27/2005 NASHVILLE — As the Vanderbilt women’s soccer team keeps on winning the team picks up more and more national recognition. The Commodores (9-1-0; 2-0-0 SEC), who have been ranked in three-straight Soccer Buzz Magazine National Top 30 polls, enter their fourth week at No. 19, up one spot from No. 20. It is the team’s highest ranking since 1999. Other media outlets are also recognizing the Commodores. Top Drawer Soccer, which has already named junior goalkeeper Tyler Griffin (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior forward Lea Lafield (Dallas, Texas) to its National Team of the Week in back-to-back weeks, tapped a third Commodores player for the third consecutive week. Junior defender Kim Perkins (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), who was the SEC Defensive Player of the Week, joined those two this week when she was named to the TDS and the Soccer America National Teams of the Week after posting 180 minutes in two shutouts on a defense that allowed only 10 shots and only two shots on goal in victories over SEC opponents Arkansas and LSU. Top Drawer Soccer has taken note of the team as well, ranking it at No. 22, up from No. 26 in its Top 40 poll. Vanderbilt was also receiving votes in the Soccer Times poll for the second-straight week. The team earned eight votes this week, up two from the six it garnered last week. The team is also ranked regionally. Soccer Buzz has the Commodores No. 2 in the Central Region, behind only Texas A&M, while NCSAA has the team at No. 9 in the Central Region. |
