Lafield Named SEC Player of the Week

9/19/2005 Vanderbilt junior Lea Lafield (Dallas, Texas) was named the Southeastern Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week following her second game-winning goal of the season in the 82nd minute of a 2-1 victory over previously undefeated Samford Sunday evening.

Lafield, who also assisted the first goal of the game, took a centering pass off a free kick from sophomore Amy Baumann (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and belted the ball around a wall of Bulldog players for the go-ahead score. It was Lafield’s second goal and second game-winner on the season.

The junior led the team in assists and was second in points last season and she led the SEC in assists in conference games in 2004 as well. This year she leads the team in game-winning goals and is currently tied for fourth on the team in goals (2) and points (6), third in assists (2). Lafield is currently leading the team in shots on goal with 12, she has a SOG percentage of .500, and she is second on the team with 24 shots. Those numbers are through only seven of the team’s eight games as Lafield sat out of the 9-0 blow-out victory against Francis Marion to rest injuries.

Lafield and the No. 24 Commodores will begin the 2005 SEC season Friday night when they host Arkansas at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex at 7 pm.
