Men’s Soccer Falls To Wright State, 2-1

9/18/2005

Nashville, Tenn. – Wright State rallied for two second-half goals, the last one coming with less than two minutes in the game to defeat Vanderbilt 2-1 in the final game of the PUMA Classic.

John Krause scored his seventh goal of the season off of assists from Joe Germanese and Tim Lonergan at the 18:51 mark to give the Commodores a 1-0 lead. VU out shot the Raiders 9-3 in the first half and led at halftime.

Wright State got on the board in the 78th minute, when Tony Labudovski took an assist from Trent Corbin and scored. The Raiders then took the lead when Dana York roped a hooking shot into the net at the 88:26 mark.

“You have got to give credit to Wright State, they battled the entire match, but without a doubt this had to be one of the most disappointing games that I have been involved with here at Vanderbilt,” said head coach Tim McClements. “We had the ability to win it and didn’t. I think we need to regroup and move on and I think the guys will.”

WSU had 13 shots in the second half and improved to 2-4 on the year, while VU fell to 3-3.

Western Kentucky beat Vermont 2-1 in overtime in the earlier game to win the PUMA Classic with a 2-0 record.

Krause scored three goals in the tournament and was named to the all-tourney team along with freshman midfielder Brian Mascarenhas.

Vanderbilt will be back in action next Saturday on the road against Memphis at 7 p.m.
