Vanderbilt Men’s Soccer Defeats College of Charleston, 1-0

Charleston, S.C. — Senior John Krause’s goal in the 58th minute proved to be the game winner as Vanderbilt edged past College of Charleston, 1-0, Saturday night in the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic at Patriot Points Field.

The Commodores improved to 2-0 on the season, with Krause scoring four of the team’s five goals on the weekend. He was named the tournament MVP for his efforts.

Both teams were in a defensivee battle until Krause scored at the 57:45 mark off an assist by senior Brady Hyde.

The Cougars edged the Commodores, 13-11, in shots and tied in saves, 3-3. Junior keeper Kenny Schoeni recorded his third career shutout. Krause led Vanderbilt with six shots, while Matt Morris and Jeremy Gold each had four shots to pace the Cougars.

Vanderbilt will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Berkeley, Calif., to take part in the Cal Legacy Classic. VU will take on Cal on Sept. 9 at 2:30 p.m., and will then face Stanford on Sept. 11 at Noon.
