Commodores Ranked No. 6 in Central Region 8/30/2005 The Vanderbilt women’s soccer team received its highest ranking in the Ronnie Coveleskie Hill era when Soccer Buzz Magazine named it No. 6 in the Central Region. The Commodores moved up one notch, trading places with Kansas (0-1-1) to secure sixth place. The last time Vanderbilt was ranked at least that high was in 1999, two seasons before Hill became a Commodore coach. The No. 1 and 2 teams in the Central Region, Texas A&M (2-0) and Nebraska (2-0) remained the same, but Texas jumped up from No. 5 to No. 3 after posting a 2-0 record on the weekend and while Tennessee (0-1) slipped one spot to No. 4. Colorado, which narrowly defeated the Commodores 2-1 on last Friday, lost its Sunday match-up against the nation’s top team, North Carolina, and fell one spot to No.5. The Commodores (1-1) are also one of six teams currently receiving votes in the national Top 30 poll. The team will be back on the field Friday when it hosts Francis Marion at 7 pm in its home-opener at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. It will play again Sunday at 1 pm against Washington State. |
