Coaches Pick Dores to Place Third in SEC East 8/17/2005 The Southeastern Conference women’s soccer coaches selected the Commodores to finish third in the East in their preseason balloting, the league announced today. Vanderbilt received 39 points, seven more than Georgia, which came in fourth. Tennessee was nabbed to win the East with 56 points, however the Lady Vols split the first-place votes with Florida, grabbing six each. Florida, which had 55 points to place it in second, received six votes to win the overall conference title, one more than Tennessee. Auburn, which took 10 first- place votes in the West for a total of 60 points, also earned one selection to win the conference. Rounding out the East, South Carolina finished fifth with 19 and Kentucky was picked to finish last with 15 points. The Commodores will find out a little bit more about what’s in store this season on Friday when they face Birmingham Southern in a scrimmage in Huntsville, Ala. They will then travel to Colorado and Denver for two games before coming home to host Francis Marion on Sept. 1 in the home-opener. The team’s first conference game is Sept. 23 against Arkansas.
