David Price Named Baseball America Freshman All-American

Vanderbilt Commodore left-handed pitcher David Price (6-6, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Blackman HS) was named to the Baseball America Freshman All-American Team today earning second team honors. The teams were selected by the staff of Baseball America.

Price worked himself into the Commodore starting weekend rotation (Sunday starter) making 16 appearances, including 10 starts. He gave up 51 hits in 69.1 innings and struck out 92 batters. He allowed only 12 extra-base hits and numbered 30 walks. He owned a 2.73 ERA which ranked second on the team. Opponents batted .207 against him which ranked third in the Southeastern Conference. He also ranked third in the SEC in batters struck out looking (34). He struck out a career 11 batters vs. Tennessee and Florida.

Price is currently in Raleigh, NC, at the 2005 USA Baseball National Team Trials. He is one of 39 collegiate players competing for one of 20 roster spots which will be announced Friday (July 1). Price was one of the first 13 players invited to the tryouts.

The last Commodores named to the Baseball America Freshman All-American Team was Mark Prior and Karl Nonemaker in 1999, both second-team selections.
