Women’s Soccer Recruiting Class Garners High Rankings 6/21/2005 For the second consecutive season the Vanderbilt women’s soccer recruiting class has earned a national ranking from Soccer Buzz Magazine. The Commodores five-member class for 2005 was listed 21st in the country and third-best among all Southeastern Conference members, behind only Tennessee (fifth) and Florida (seventh). Vanderbilt’s No. 6 ranking in the Central Region marked the Commodores third-consecutive appearance in the regional ranking. The class includes Jessica Lenze (Atlanta, Ga.), Katie Schultz (Atlanta, Ga.), Amy Wilcox (Arlington, Va.), Meghan Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla.) and Taylor Ryer (Amherst, N.H.). “It’s very evident the direction in which women’s soccer is going at Vanderbilt,” Head Coach Ronnie Coveleskie-Hill said. “The recruiting class is the perfect example of the university’s strong commitment to our program. We’re moving another step closer to winning championships.” Lenze and Schultz were standout performers as well as NSCAA Academic All-Americans at McIntosh High School in Atlanta. The duo recently was named to the Georgia High School All-Star team, with Schultz earning most valuable player honors. Lenze was a two-time Player of the Year honoree by the Atlanta Journal Constitution and was a member of the Region III Olympic Development Team. Schultz, a two-time Parade Magazine All-American, was a pool player for the U-19 National Team that competed in the fall 2004. She also attended the national training camp in January 2005. Higgins was named her high school team’s most valuable player, offensive most valuable player and Treasure Coast Player of the Year. |
