More Than 450 Fans Attend “Behind the Dores” 6/20/2005 More than 450 fans received an inside glimpse of Vanderbilt basketball at “Behind the Dores” Monday at Memorial Gymnasium. The event was sponsored by the National Commodore Club. Commodore followers collected autographs while meeting coaches and players from both the men’s and women’s programs. Fans also visited the locker rooms and coaches’ offices, and ran drills with both teams. “It was a good way for fans to interact with the players and coaches,” said rising junior forward Carla Thomas. “It was fun to meet the people that support us and to show them what a typical practice is like for us.” “It gave fans a chance to get to know us on an individual basis,” said rising sophomore forward DeMarre Carroll. The two-and-a-half hour event also featured reenactments of last season’s last-second plays that led to Commodore victories. Women’s Head Coach Melanie Balcomb took fans step-by-step through Vanderbilt’s breakaway lay-up that helped seal an NCAA Tournament win over Kansas State. Men’s Head Coach Kevin Stallings detailed Vanderbilt’s thrilling win over Wichita State in the National Invitation Tournament which featured a full-court pass and a lay-in before the buzzer. |
