Five Commodores Named to the SEBaseball.com All-Conference Teams

Five Commodore baseball players were named to the SEBaseball.com All-Conference Teams, including junior pitcher Jensen Lewis, junior first baseman Mike Baxter, junior catcher Brian Hernandez, freshman pitcher David Price and freshman designated hitter/third baseman Alex Feinberg

Lewis was named to the first team, while Baxter and Hernandez earned second team honors.  Price and Feinberg were named to the All-Freshman Team.

Lewis leads the Southeastern Conference’s top pitching staff with an 8-3 record and 2.62 ERA.  He has 15 appearances and 14 starts and earned one save this season.  He has pitched 92.2 innings and has given up 34 runs on 74 hits.  He has struck out 95 batters and walked 23.  Opponents own a .218 batting average against him.

Baxter leads the team in nine statistical categories and was recently named the team’s Most Valuable Player.  He owns a .377 batting average and leads the conference with 27 steals.  He earned SEC Player of the Week and NCBWA National Hitter of the Week honors helping lead the Commodores to their first series win over No. 6 Ole Miss in eight years.  He has reached base in all but two games.

Hernandez is second on the team in hitting with a .342 average.  He totals 15 doubles and 42 RBI.  He committed only four errors behind the plate and has started 53 games –  48 as catcher and four as designated hitter.

Price worked his way into the starting rotation and has played in 16 games while starting in 10.  He has pitched 69.1 innings and has given up 25 runs on 51 hits.  He numbers 92 strikeouts with a career-high 11 vs. Tennessee and Florida.  Opponents own a .207 batting average against him.  He is second on the team with a 2.73 ERA.

Feinberg began the season as the designated hitter (17 games), but has moved to third base (23 games) with an injury to starter Tony Mansolino.  Feinberg is batting .335 and totals 43 hits.  He has reached base in 38 of the 40 games he started, including 19 consecutive games to open the season.
