Vandy Men Finish Season 23rd at NCAA East Regional 5/21/2005 KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Vanderbilt sophomore Luke List fired a one-under par 70 and fellow teammate Dos Goldsmith added a 71, but the Commodores shot 303 as a team placing 23rd Saturday at the NCAA East Regional at the Golf Club of Tennessee. The Commodores missed the cut for the NCAA Championships for the first time since the 2002-03 season. Goldsmith led Vandy in the tournament finishing tied for 48th place at three-over par 216. List followed at five-over par 218 after carding back-to-back 70s in the last two rounds of the tournament. Senior MarK Donnell played in his final tournament for the Commodores. He shot 79 Saturday and finished 16-over par 229. Brett Lange posted a 244 and Will Armstrong added a 246 in three rounds. List birdied three times in his first seven holes Saturday. He recorded consecutive birdies on holes 5-7. He recorded a birdie on hole 17 and finish even on 18 to finish one-under on the day. Goldsmith posted four birdies on the day. He was on pace to finish as VU’s top leader Saturday, but a triple bogey on 18 left him at even-par 71. Fifth-seeded Wake Forest turned in a championship round three-under par 281 to earn its first-ever regional title. Wake led after each round of the three-day tournament. The Demon Deacons totaled a 17-under par 835 for the tournament, winning their first title of the season. Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson started the tournament with a school record six-under 65 on day one. He finished one stroke better with a seven-under 64 for a three-day total 15-under 198 to earn medallist honors by one stroke. Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Georgia State, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina, Duke and Georgia Southern round out the top 10. Tennessee totaled a five-under 279 for second place, Georgia posted a one-over 285 for third, Florida came in at four-over 288 along with Georgia State which shot a 8-under 272 to tie for fourth place. Alabama and Georgia Tech tied for sixth with five-under 847 and Coastal Carolina and Duke tied for eighth with three-under 849. Georgia Southern earned the last bid to the NCAA Championships with a two-under 850. East Tennessee State’s Rhys Davies finished second individually at 14-under 199, earning a bid to the NCAA Championships along with North Carolina’s Martin Ureta who finished tied for eighth at seven-under 206. Thirty-eight players shot even par or better for the tournament. The top 10 teams and two individuals from non-championship qualifying teams advance to the NCAA Championships.
