Goldsmith Paces Vandy Men on Day One of NCAA East Regional

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Vanderbilt sophomore Dos Goldsmith fired an opening round two-under par 69, his best round of the season and Vanderbilt shot 17-over par 301 putting the Commodores in 23rd place after the first day of the NCAA East Regional at the Golf Club of Tennessee Thursday.

Wake Forest’s Kyle Reifers fired a six-under par 65 to pace his team and the fifth-seeded Demon Deacons turned in a 13-under par 271 currently putting them in first place. Play was suspended due to darkness with six teams still left to finish round one.

Goldsmith birdied five times on the day. He shot 37 on the front nine and birdied three times on the back nine posting a 32. He is tied for 21st place. Mark Donnell shot three-over par 74 putting him 80th. Sophomore Luke List followed with a 78 while Will Armstrong had an 80 and Brett Lange put up an 86.

North Carolina, Georgia State, East Tennessee State, Coastal Carolina, UCF and Indiana will complete first round action Friday. A two-hour rain delay suspended play during the afternoon session.

North Carolina, Georgia, Georgia State and Alabama round out the top five. Georgia posted a nine-under par 275 while Alabama shot four-under par 280. Reifers birdied six times shooting 32 on the back nine before shooting 33 on the front nine to wrap up his day. The Demon Deacons have three players in the top 15 led by Reifers, who leads the individual competition.

Wake Forest’s Sean Moore is tied for fifth after posting a four-under par 67 while Chris McCartin’s three-under par 68 has him tied for 11th. Tennessee’s Ross McGowan, Georgia’s Brendon Todd and Coast Carolina’s Dustin Johnson are five-under par and in second place. Fifty-three players finished even par or better on day one. Georgia Southern, Tennessee, East Tennessee State and Coastal Carolina round out the top nine while there is a four-way tie for 10th place between UCF, Georgia Tech, Clemson and Louisville. The top 10 teams and two individuals from non-participating teams advance to the NCAA Championships.

North Carolina, Georgia State, East Tennessee State, Coastal Carolina, UCF and Indiana will complete round one Friday morning beginning at 7:12 a.m. Georgia, Georgia Tech and Florida will tee off round two on hole 10 Friday at 7:12 a.m.
