Four Dores Earn Selections to NCAA Championships

5/5/2005 A total of four Vanderbilt women’s tennis players were selected by the NCAA to compete in the 2005 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, held May 23-28 in Athens, Ga.

Selected were senior Audra Falk in both singles and doubles, sophomore Amanda Fish in singles, and freshmen Taka Bertrand in singles and Amanda Taylor in doubles.

“I think this is the most we have ever had in the draw,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach Geoff Macdonald.  “To get three players in singles is great.”

Falk anchored the Commodores at the top slot, where she knocked off 12 ranked opponents on her way to 17 wins.  Falk stands at No. 17 in the latest ITA poll.

Fish netted a perfect SEC regular season, chalking up an astounding, 11-0 record.  Fish leads the team in wins with 21 and currently holds a No. 28 ITA ranking.

Bertrand went 15-5 at the No. 3 position while posting an overall record of 18-6.  The Great Falls, Va. native did not lose a single match to a ranked opponent in her freshman campaign.

On the doubles side, Falk partnered with VU rookie Taylor to net a 7-3 record playing a top slot for the Commodores.  Falk and Taylor landed big wins over Tennessee and Kentucky.  The duo is ranked No. 30.

“Audra (Falk) and Amanda (Taylor) have been great in doubles.  They have beaten some top-10 teams.  I believe they are one of the hottest teams around.”
