VU Men Earn Berth in NCAA Tournament

The No. 38 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team is slated to face ACC member Georgia Tech in the opening round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament in Gainesville, Fla. Currently, the Commodores are 12-11 overall while playing the nation’s toughest conference. The Dores posted a pair of tremendous victories late in the season over No. 23 MTSU and No. 24 Tennessee. Both matches were 4-3 decisions clinched by Vanderbilt sophomore Evan Dufaux at the No. 6 position. The Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 28 by the ITA and clutch a 14-9 overall record. The Ramblin’ Wreck finished fifth in the ACC standings and fell to third seed Florida State, 4-2 in the quarterfinals. SEC rival Florida and Atlantic Sun member Central Florida lie on the other side of the Gainesville bracket. The dates for the men’s regional are Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15. The exact match times are yet to be determined. This is the fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Vanderbilt men. The men have been selected to six championships overall.
