Brady Voted First Team All-SEC 4/28/2005 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Vanderbilt sophomore Chris Brady has been chosen to the first team of the 2005 All-Southeastern Conference honor squad by a vote of league coaches. Brady, who won two tournaments during the course of the season and owns the school record with four victories, was a second team all-SEC choice a year ago. The North Carolina product averaged 74 strokes over 27 tournament rounds and won the Landfall Tradition and LSU/Cleveland Invitational during the course of the year. She will lead her Vanderbilt team into next week’s NCAA East Regional Championships in Gainesville, Fla. Georgia head coach Todd McCorkle, Tennessee’s Violeta Retamoza and Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis were accorded major honors as announced by conference officials. McCorkle was voted SEC Coach of the Year by her peers while Retamoza was named the SEC Golfer and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Lewis was tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year. The Coach of the Year honor for McCorkle is his first in the SEC. In 2000, he was named the Golfweek National Coach of the Year after helping lead Arizona to the NCAA Championship. The following year, in 2001, he directed the Lady Bulldogs to the national championship. Retamoza, a junior from Aguascalientes, Mexico, is ranked ninth in the nation in the latest Golfweek ratings. She also leads the SEC in scoring, averaging 73.15 strokes per round. Lewis, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, is ranked 11th in the nation in the latest Golfweek rankings. She is third in the SEC in scoring, averaging 74.00 strokes per round. Retamoza earned her third consecutive first-team All-SEC honor while Auburn’s Maria Martinez and Georgia’s Whitney Wade earned their second such recognition.
