Florida Claims SEC Tourney Showdown, 4-1 4/23/2005 The No. 8 Florida Gators garnered the doubles point and three singles match en route to a 4-1 victory over No. 4 Vanderbilt in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament on Saturday. The Gators took wins in the doubles draw at both Nos. 2 and 3 to move out to 1-0 lead. Vanderbilt freshman Taka Bertrand earned the lone Commodores win of the day in singles when she evened the match with her victory over Florida’s Nina Suvak in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. With the win, Bertrand improves her 2005 dual-match record to a stellar, 18-6. The Gators countered the VU win with three wins over their own, clinching their place in the finals with Boglarka Berecz’s straight set victory over VU’s Caroline Ferrell at the sixth position. UF’s Alex Liles and Zerene Reyes also captured wins for the Gators on Sunday. Liles notched the second Gator point of the day at No. 5, while Reyes nabbed the third with her showing at the second slot. Doubles |
