Four Dores Earn First, Second Team Honors 4/21/2005 A total of four Commodores claimed First and Second Team honors handed out by the league office on Wednesday. “To have four players named is just a great individual achievement for each of them in helping our team climb the national rankings and just barely miss an SEC regular season championship,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach Geoff Macdonald. Vanderbilt senior Audra Falk and sophomore Amanda Fish both captured First Team All-SEC honors, while sophomore Taka Bertrand and freshman Amanda Taylor earned spots on the All-SEC Second Team, respectively. Falk anchored the Commodores from the top singles slot throughout the 2005 season, notching 17 regular season wins as well as going 7-4 at the No. 1 position in the nation’s toughest conference. Thus far in 2005, Falk has posted an astounding 13 triumphs over foes ranked the ITA’s top 100. Falk has now achieved the tremendous feat of being name First or Second Team All-SEC in each of her four years at Vanderbilt. VU super sophomore Amanda Fish was also named First Team All-SEC for her play at the No. 2 position. Fish leads the Commodores with 20 total wins while posting an incredible, 11-0 record in SEC play. The Scituate, Mass. product has garnered 15 of her last 16 outings and currently boasts a No. 29 national ranking. For her play on the doubles side, Fish and partner Taka Bertrand were chosen to the All-SEC Second Team at the No. 2 doubles position. Thus far in the spring, the No. 47 duo owns a record of 18-5, 8-2 SEC. Speaking of Bertrand, she was also named to the Second Team for her stellar play in the singles draw at the No. 3 position. Overall, the Great Falls, Va. native clutches a 17-5 record while going 8-3 in her first season of SEC action. Head Coach Geoff Macdonald’s club boasts yet another freshman on the All-SEC Second Team. For her efforts, VU Amanda Taylor was earned the nod at the No. 4 position. In her first season on West End, Taylor notched 18 wins, with nine of those victories coming in conference action. Taylor has tallied wins in 13 of her last 17 matchups. The Dores look to add an SEC championship to their lengthening list of accolades as they head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. for the conference tournament. The Commodores face the Alabama/Ole Miss winner on Friday at 2:00 p.m. |
