Cats Trip Dores 5-2 4/16/2005 The No. 36 Vanderbilt men’s tennis fell 5-2 to No. 12 Kentucky on Saturday afternoon. The Commodores scored the first doubles match of the day with senior Scott Brown and freshman Jason Pinsky’s win at the top slot. The No. 26 VU pairing upset UK’s No. 12 combo of Jesse Witten and Tigran Martirosyan, 8-6. With the win, Scott Brown becomes the all-time winningest player in the history of Vanderbilt men’s tennis with 173 career victories. The Cats quickly countered the Commodore win at No. 1 with their 8-5 victory at No. 3. Kentucky captured the doubles point at the second slot, where UK’s Nate Emgee and Alex Hume tripped VU’s Andy Mack and Nathan Sachs, 8-5. VU rookie Ryan Preston notched the Commodores first point of the day with his impressive, 6-4, 6-2 win over UK’s Matt Emery at the No. 5 position. Kentucky’s Witten handed the Wildcats a 2-1 lead on the strength of his 6-4, 6-4 showing over Vanderbilt’s Brown. UK’s Emgee pushed the lead to 3-1 with his straight set win over VU’s Matt Lockin. The Wildcats clinched the matchup with Martirosyan’s “W” at No. 4. VU’s Pinsky chalked up the second Commodores win of the day as he outmatched UK’s Alex Hume, 6-3, 7-6 (4) at the second slot. The victory improved the Potomac, Md. native to 14-8, 5-6 SEC. The Commodores next opponent comes at the 2005 SEC Tournament in Athens, Ga.
