No. 5 Dores Clash with No. 2 Cats 4/14/2005 The No. 5 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team looks to hand No. 2 Kentucky their first SEC loss of the year as it travels to Lexington for a 1:00 p.m. showdown at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Commodores enter the contest coming off perhaps its most impressive outing of the season as it dropped No. 4 Georgia, 7-0 in Athens on Sunday. VU claimed two of three doubles matches and all six singles matches en route to the 7-0 blanking of the Bulldogs. In their last outing, the Wildcats clinched the SEC regular season title with their 4-3 win over Tennessee in Knoxville. Thus far in 2005, UK owns a record of 21-3, 10-0 SEC. “Kentucky has had a great year and I salute them,” said Vanderbilt Head Coach Geoff Macdonald. “We are very excited to go against them on Saturday.” Macdonald’s crew features four players with 15 or more wins, including Commodore senior Audra Falk with a 17 at the top slot and VU sophomore Amanda Fish who owns 19 victories at the No. 2 position. “She (Fish) has developed into one of the best players in the country,” said Macdonald. “When I recruited her, I thought she was top ten for her age and she is proving that to be true.” Fish has compiled a perfect, 10-0 record in SEC play thus far this season. Overall, the Scituate, Mass. native is 19-3. In last year’s meetings between the squads the Dores tripped the Cats, 4-0 in regular season action and returned the defeat the Wildcats in the SEC Tournament by the same tally.
