Bowling Signs Strong Incoming Class
4/13/2005
Vanderbilt signed four bowlers Wednesday to the national letter of intent to comprise its first recruiting class in program history. The foursome has a distinctly national flavor with representatives from Illinois, New Jersey, Colorado and Pennsylvania. Three of the signees will be freshmen this fall while one transfer will be a sophomore.
“The first step in building an NCAA championship caliber team is recruiting quality student-athletes and that’s what we’ve done,” says Head Coach John Williamson. “We believe this incoming class includes some of the finest junior bowlers in the nation and they should give us a firm foundation upon which to build in the future. I am very proud of the growth of our team this year and the dedication and leadership our returning bowlers are showing during off-season workouts. When we combine these two groups this fall we are very excited about our future.”
Williamson noted that his signing class was drawn to Vanderbilt by its outstanding academic reputation along with the opportunity to help establish the Commodores’ bowling tradition. Vanderbilt just elevated the sport to varsity status last September and competed this year with walk-ons and former members of the club team.
Each signee is considered to be among the best girls junior bowler in her respective state.
