Dores Down MTSU 4-3 4/6/2005 The No. 54 Vanderbilt men’s tennis claimed four matches in the singles draw to edge the No. 23 MTSU Blue Raiders, 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. “I am so proud,” said Vanderbilt Interim Head Coach Eddie Coates. “We have lost so many close ones and we just took it upon ourselves to get the win today. We needed this one. We have a lot of grudge matches with these guys and today’s win was big.” The Blue Raiders got out to a 1-0 lead with doubles wins at both the first and third positions. In singles action, MTSU improved their lead to 2-0 with Marco Born’s victory over VU’s Matt Lockin at No. 2. VU senior Scott Brown earned the Dores their first point of the day with his win over No. 99 Andreas Siljestrom in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The victory was Brown’s 14th of the season. VU’s freshman tandem of Jason Pinksy and Ryan Preston both collected triumphs against the Blue Raiders at Nos. 3 and 4 to give the Commodores a 3-2 advantage. Pinsky dropped MTSU’s Kai Schledorn in straights, 6-3, 6-4 while Preston notched his 14th “W” of the season with his 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 showing over Anant Sitaram. The Blue Raiders knotted the match at 3-3 with Brandon Allan’s win at the fifth slot. Allan tripped VU’s Nathan Sachs, 7-5, 6-3. The match came down to Vanderbilt sophomore Evan Dufaux at No. 6. Dufaux dropped the first set, 6-2, but stormed back to take the second by the same tally. The Tampa, Fla. native went on to control 12 of the final 17 games en route to the win and Commodore victory. “Evan has turned around 100 percent in the last month” said Coates. “He looks like a totally different person out there. The guys are seeing him and the team is feeding off his energy. Right now it feels like every body is coming together and we are having a lot more fun on the courts.” With the win, the Dores improve to 11-8 in 2005 and are set to host SEC rivals Tennessee and Georgia on Friday and Sunday.
