VU Takes on Blue Raiders 4/5/2005 VU Takes on Blue Raiders The No. 52 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team heads east on Wednesday to take on in-state rival, No. 25 MTSU in a mid-week showdown in Murfreesboro. The Commodores enter the contest with the Blue Raiders after splitting SEC matches with Alabama and Auburn. The Dores downed the Tide, 5-2 but fell in a 4-3 heartbreaker to the Tigers on Sunday afternoon. Currently, the Blue Raiders hold a 13-5 record in 2005, but have dropped their last two matchups, including a 4-2 decision in their last outing to No. 21 Tulane in New Orleans. MTSU showcases Stockholm, Sweden native Andreas Siljestrom. Siljestrom owns a No. 88 ITA ranking in singles and a No. 19 ranking in the doubles draw with partner Marco Born. With the split over the weekend, the Commodores move to 10-8, 2-6 SEC. The Dores currently boast three players with doubles digit win totals, including a pair of talented freshman. VU rookies Jason Pinsky and Ryan Preston have stepped up for the Dores in 2005, combining to chalk up a mark of 25-10 in their first collegiate campaign. Vanderbilt’s ever-consistent senior, Scott Brown continues to anchor the Commodore lineup at the No. 1 singles position. Brown clutches 13 wins at the top spot, matching Preston for the team high. The St. Louis, Mo. native also teams with Pinsky to form VU’s top doubles tandem with a record of 13-4. In last year’s matchup, the Dores edged MTSU in Nashville, 4-3. Wednesday’s showdown is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. |
