VU Men Fall at Arkansas, 4-3 3/25/2005 The No. 40 Vanderbilt men’s tennis team dropped its second heartbreaker of the week on Friday afternoon, as the No. 71 Razorbacks edged the Dores, 4-3. The Razorbacks notched the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. VU senior Matt Lockin and freshman Ryan Preston grabbed the lone Commodores doubles win with an 8-5 decision at No. 3. Arkansas pushed the lead to 2-0 with their win at the No. 6 slot. UA’s Michael Jung tripped VU’s Andy Mack in straights, 6-2, 6-2. Vanderbilt’s Preston earned the first Commodore point of the day at the fifth slot, knocking off Imran Ismail, 6-3, 6-1. The Commodores and the Razorbacks traded the next two matchups and Arkansas took a 3-2 lead. UA’s Adrians Zguns clinched the matchup for the Razorbacks at the second position. Zguns outlasted VU’s Lockin, 7-5, 6-4. Sophomore Nathan Sachs and senior Scott Brown both garnered victories for the Dores at Nos. 1 and 4. The Dores will have to rebound quickly as they travel to Baton Rouge for a showdown with the LSU Tigers on Sunday. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. Doubles |
