The Vanderbilt bowling team claimed two more wins along with a sixth place finish on Sunday in the finale of the inaugural Music City Classic.

Coach John Williamson’s crew was paced by sophomore Christine Luce and junior Jennifer Redmond.  Luce posted an imposing 184 average for the tournament, while Redmond chalked up a stellar 161.

As a team, the Commodores got out of the gates in a hurry as they downed Arkansas State in their first outing on Sunday, 864-850.  Luce hurled 189 for the Dores against the Indians, while sophomore counterpart Jessica Tower tossed an impressive 187 of her own.

In the second showdown of the day, the Commodores danced with Alabama A&M.  The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead from the Dores and never looked back, dropping the Commodores to 3-3 overall in the Classic.

With their performance in pool action, the Commodores notched the No. 6 seed for the tournament championship.

In first round championship action, the Indians of Arkansas State took their revenge on the Dores, tripping VU, 804-580 to move into a matchup with Central Missouri State.

With the defeat, the Dores were sent to the consolation bracket where they faced off against the Cheyney Wolves.

VU dismantled Cheyney in four baker games, outscoring the Wolves, 623-447.

The Commodores would later fall to Alabama A&M in the fifth place match.

In the Music City Classic championship match, the Nebraska Cornhuskers edged Central Missouri State to take the title, 832-782.

Nebraska’s Shannon Pluhowsky averaged an incredible 218 for the tournament and was honored with the MVP trophy.  A total of four Cornhuskers were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Music City Classic represents the last tournament of the year for the Commodores, closing their first year of varsity competition.
